The short version

Who we are

Grab Bag is made by Fleming & Kin Ltd, a company registered in England and Wales (company number 17507380), registered office Piccadilly Business Centre, Unit C, Aldow Enterprise Park, Blackett Street, Manchester M12 6AE. We are the “controller” of any personal information described in this policy. You can contact us at hello@flemingandkin.com.

Information that stays on your phone

Everything you enter in Grab Bag is stored on your device and is not sent to us or anyone else. This includes:

Because this information never leaves your device, we cannot see it, recover it or delete it for you. You can delete it at any time in Settings → Delete all my data, or by deleting the app.

Location

If you allow it, Grab Bag uses your phone’s location to:

These calculations happen on your phone. Your exact location is never sent anywhere.

When you choose to download your area in the Nearby feature, the app sends an approximate location, rounded to about 1 km, to public OpenStreetMap “Overpass” servers. These are run by independent organisations, not by us. They use it to send back information about water sources, hills, shelters and help points near you. We do not receive this location and it is not linked to you, your device or an account. These servers may keep standard technical logs, such as IP addresses, under their own privacy policies.

You can use Grab Bag without location. You can switch it off at any time in your phone’s settings.

Reminders

If you turn on use-by reminders, they are scheduled on your phone by your phone’s own notification system. No information is sent to us or to a notification service.

Backups

If you make a backup, Grab Bag creates a file that you choose where to save, for example in iCloud Drive or by email. We never receive or have access to that file. It contains your plan and stores, so keep it somewhere safe.

Purchases

Optional in-app purchases are processed by Apple (App Store) or Google (Google Play). They handle your payment under their own privacy policies. We do not receive your name, email or card details. The app is only told whether a purchase has been made, so it can unlock content.

If you contact us

If you email us, we use your email address and message to reply and help you. Our lawful basis is our legitimate interest in answering enquiries about our app. We keep these emails only as long as we need to deal with your enquiry and any follow-up, and no longer than two years. We do not use your email for marketing unless you ask us to.

Children

Grab Bag is designed for adults preparing their household. It does not collect personal information from anyone, including children. Parents may choose to use features such as the household plan together with their children.

Your rights

Under UK data protection law you have rights over your personal information. These include the right to access it, correct it, delete it, or object to how we use it.
